Have you ever wanted to see Scorpion and Batman duke it out? Ever wanted to see if Superman’s super breathe was colder than Sub Zero’s ice blast? Ever just wanted to be part of a cat fight between Sonya and Catwoman? Well Midway has provided the answers with this great fighting game.
MK vs. DC isn’t the most refine fighting game. You won’t see realistic physics or actual fighting styles depicted, but what you do get is pure arcade fun! This is the game at the arcade that you just want to pour your quarters into. The fighting has both a basic and intense nature to it. Sure anyone can do Scorpion’s moves..but it takes some real skill to pull off a wicked 10-hit or more combo. The selection of characters has shrunk compared to most recent MK titles, which is actually a good thing, to a more basic MK1-2 selection of characters. You have your basic Liu Kang, Raiden, Jax, Sonya, Shang Tsung, (sorry sj about Reptiles disappearance..maybe he’ll be downloadable later! D:), Scorpion, Sub Zero, Baraka, Kano, Kitana, Shao Kahn and from the DC Universe you get Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel, Catwoman, Darkseid, Deathstroke, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Joker (Awesome..), Lex Luthor, and Wonder Woman. Altogether a great selection of characters.
I played this game through PS3 online channels, (with little experience with the Playstation Network’s playability) and I have to say it was amazing. You enter a room categorized by famous DC Universe and MK scenarios filled with other players, choose who you wish to face or wait for someone to challenge you, and then fight. If you wish to continue fighting that person (be it because they sucked or you want a rematch) you can (as long as they also accept to) otherwise you return to the menu to choose another combatant. Your wins and loses are recorded as well as if you are on a winning streak. I only had a few problems with lag where suddenly my character would freeze and suddenly get hit..but it was few and far between being an annoying occurrence.
The only problem I would say this game has is the longevity of it. It has story mode, arcade mode, and a great online system, but it should really be taken in short bursts rather then long gaming sessions.

Rating 4/5
Pros: Basic arcade game fun. Awesome character choice. No nonsense special attacks. Great online. Beautiful visual design. It’ll hold your attention until Street Fighter IV.
Cons: Like any fighting game, it can get repetitive. Should be enjoyed in small bursts.
Flawless Victory!
