Fallout 3 - Game Review

Photobucket

Welcome vault dweller to the world doomed by radiation and terrifying ghouls! This is the world of Fallout 3, and you my friend have just left the safety of Vault 101 to search for your father and the truth behind your past. This exicting new world is filled with destroyed landscapes, gigantic mutated creatures, super mutants hunting for humans, raiders, and hours of great gameplay.

Gameplay:

Fallout 3 acts like a skinned over Oblivion 4, but to tell the truth, I've had a lot more enjoyment in Fallout 3 then I've ever had in Oblivion 4..but that just might be my love for post-apocalyptic scenarios. You can think of Fallout 3 as an RPG with a gun, but never think about it as any other FPS you've ever played. If you rush in this game thinking it's another Halo 3 or Call of Duty you are in for a hell of a surprise. Tactics and steady aim are key to your survival when a super mutant is rushing you with a sledgehammer. It's also helpful when you're capable of freezing time and focusing your attack on certain parts of your enemies body. This is capable through V.A.T.S. or Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System. Great improvement to the game, because without this most players would suffer from cluttering enemies and constantly missed shots.

Fallout 3 likes to focus on the different choices you can make. Like Fable, you are given the chance to either be a neutral dweller, a goodie goodie, or Satan's spawn and these factors will define what quests open up for you and who may want to join you in your adventures or hunt you down for your bounty.

For example: The first town that you search for your father within is called Megaton, named after the nuclear explosive that has yet to go off in the middle of the town. You are given two choices, help the sheriff by disarming the bomb, or help the mysterious stranger Mister Burke detonate lhe bomb for his welfy boss. Either choice can lead to alternative routes as well. One example lead me to the detonation device to the sheriff who then tried to arrest Mister Burke was killed by him and left myself with the chore of killing him afterward. But when I didn't tell the sheriff and just disarmed the bomb neither person died and I was just left with the money for the job. But there was also the alternative route of arming the bomb that left you with an amazing cinematic of the nuke going off in the distance, and when you returned to the ruins you could meet with a survior who has turned into a ghoul. Every quest has a need for a certain skill. Disarming the said bomb needs a science level of 30, while other tasks like lock picking and bartering would need a different level. You're given level points each time you level up as well as a perk that can either add up to more levels for certain specialties (Daddy's Boy +5 for science and medication) or other specials like having your enemies completely explode in a bloody mess everytime they die. (Favorite <3) Benefits from having high levels in certain specialties can include speech which will give you chances to discover more information about a certain quest from people or even get more caps out of a job.

Controls:

Not much to say here. I perfer the 360 controller over keyboard and mouse but I would rather play it on my PC then on the 360. It just played smoother on my rig then it did on the 360.

Fear Level:

This game can be just creepy at times. If it's not from the dungeon crawling in the dark metro tunnels, then it must be from the horribly creepy sounds constantly around you. The ghouls and super mutants do give off a spooky atmosphere but the worst fear you would have in this game is running out of stim packs! O__O!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rating: 5/5 Fear Rating: 3/5

Pros: Great RPG Actions with the addition of guns and FPS view. VATS system causes gruesome decapitation and the story alone can have you wandering the wastelands for hours upon hours. Cons: Enemies rush you at unrealistic speed as well as random pin point accuracy. Constant body glitches can have enemies walking through walls. Might seem slow paced toward the start.

Altogether a great game and a good choice for a Halloween Night Gamer.
