Dark Sector - Game Review
First Impression:
Right off the bat, I get this feeling that the developers (Digital Extremes) have no confidence in their own creation. What was actually suppose to be the first "next generation" title for our current generation rigs ended up with constant delays, which I account for as the developers sitting down with a few other good titles (Resident Evil 4, Gears of War, Generic good shooter) and ripping out the key points of these titles and at the same time completely fucking them up. Like Resident Evil 4, the game's camera follows the protagonist from over the shoulder. BUT..unlike Resident Evil 4, it doesn't feel as smooth and often times forces you to twirl randomly as you try to get a feel for your surroundings (because you never know when an enemy will just suddenly appear on you ._. ). But unlike Resident Evil 4, this game decided to use a stupid circle crosshair that gives you no real accuracy (not that the main protagonist could aim in the first place..) and like Gears of War you can cling to the surrounding walls, but again, they flawed it. While, yes you are being covered, you can still be shot at quite easily and their is no blind fire so you'll often have to peek out just to take those few inaccurate shots with your pistol (when you become infected..every other gun becomes worthless -_- ) and with your new trusty weapon the Glaive (More on that later. ) Besides that this game just feels like one of the those third person crap games you would expect on the old generation systems..just with new shiny graphics.
But we'll see if my attitude changes as I continue through the game.
Yeah...After just a little more I have to say..I can't stand this game. I doubt I could add anymore to how I described it..
Sure it's bloody and sure it has a little bit of style, but otherwise this game is just completely passable. It's really sad since it was suppose to be one of the first great, good looking, next generation games. Too bad it only accomplished looking good.
