Speed Racer - Movie Review
Speed Racer, an old 60’s anime cartoon is reborn in a Live Action film. If you’re an old fan of the anime series, love cars, or just want to see a kickass movie, then I recommend you to get your ass out of your chair and go watch it now! You will, without a doubt, have a great time whether it’s with your kids, friends, a loved one, or your mom. Yes, I recommend bringing your mom and dad because they probably have seen Speed Racer when they were five years old. It’s the cartoon they grew up on for crying out loud!
The main character is named Speed Racer, a young man with a passion to go behind the wheel and drive like a real race car driver. His influence of driving is his old brother Rex Racer, a very popular racer who set the world record. Ever since Speed was a young child his mind was set on race car driving. He wanted to be just like his older brother, but never intended to become the best.
The story is about Speed’s adventure to get revenge on the notorious Royalton. Speed was given an offer to race for Royalton Industries in the upcoming races. However, Speed declined the offer and Royalton got angry at the fact he wasn’t going to race under his name and threatened him about what will happen to his family as well as his racing career. In order to save himself and his family, he needs to take down Royalton Industries and the only way to do so is by automobile racing. The winner determines everything. However, not only his family is in danger, the entire aspect of racing is in jeopardy. Racing has become a game for the rich to rig and abuse for their own greed. Speed Racer has many challenges and obstacles to go through in order to stop Royalton and his company.
The visualization is very different from any other movie I have ever seen. From face monologue transitions to very high dynamic colors and finally to a kickass car races with tons of surprises and action (as well as a lot of explosions), it was very interesting to see a movie’s appearance such as this one. Brings out a whole new category of how to show a movie as well as broaden the ideas of other film makers.
Overall, I loved seeing this movie very much, I really enjoyed it, and I may even buy the DVD when it comes out. Five out of five stars. Excellent job, you made this $100,000,000 budget film a success. (Yes they spent $100 million.)

Besides the visual effects for the races, the fighting toward the end of the movie was so god damn amazing. Those guys that worked on the Matrix really know their shit. Also the acting was really good if not childish at times.
ReplyDeleteALSO..ban children from movie theaters..this was a PG movie but I sure as hell know that none of the kids that went that day with me and Sidd knew what the guy at Royalton was talking about. =/
